Dopamine is released from the presynaptic terminal, diffuses over the synaptic cleft and activates Dopaminergic receptors (D1-D5 receptors). After release from the nerve terminal, Dopamine is taken up via a presynaptically located Dopamine transporter and degraded by the Mono amine oxidase B (MAO-B).
