Project title: Enhancing Early Detection and Management of Severe Mental Illnesses: A Program for Medical Residents

Country: Argentina

Anchoring institution: José T. Borda Hospital

Dates running: 2026-2029

Status: Ongoing

Project description

This project will train first-year medical residents across all specialties in Argentina to improve early recognition and management of severe mental illness, particularly in settings with limited access to specialist care.

Through a blended programme (in-person in Buenos Aires, as well as online access nationwide), residents will learn to spot early warning signs, conduct risk assessments, and initiate appropriate referrals and treatment for conditions including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder.

Using Neurotorium’s evidence-based resources and hosted via the Argentina Association of Psychiatrists’ platform, the initiative aims to reach over 10,000 residents over three years, supporting earlier intervention and better outcomes across the country. All educational materials (including classes, videos, and workshops) will remain available on a dedicated online platform to ensure continued access for future cohorts.

About Neurotorium’s Clinical Education Grants

Neurotorium is offering Clinical Education Grants to support non-profit educational projects aimed at strengthening clinical competencies within the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric and neurological disorders through educational activities aimed at healthcare professionals.

Applicants can request up to 100,000 DKK (approximately $15,000 USD) per year for a duration of one to three years. The budget can only include direct costs. Projects must incorporate Neurotorium’s educational resources, be anchored within established non-commercial organizations (such as universities, hospitals, or NGOs), and demonstrate potential to positively impact clinical practice.
