Project title: Supporting Neurology Resident Education in the Dominican Republic

Country: USA (with implementation in the Dominican Republic)

Anchoring institution: Salvador Gautier Hospital

Dates running: 2026-2027

Status: Ongoing

Project description

This project strengthens neurology resident training at Salvador Gautier Hospital (SGH; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) by integrating Neurotorium’s evidence-based modules on Stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, and Alzheimer’s Disease into the residency curriculum.

Starting in the 2026–2027 academic year, nine residents will complete baseline assessments, then take part in a structured 3-week programme with daily teaching, journal clubs and case presentations, followed by post-course and 12-month follow-up to measure knowledge, confidence and retention.

Led by Dr. Kathryn Holroyd (Columbia University) with SGH leadership (Dr. Minelly Rodríguez and Dr. Luis Tusen), the initiative also supports Spanish translation of materials to enable long-term use, building sustainable expertise in a setting where stroke and other neurological disorders are a major and growing health burden.

About Neurotorium’s Clinical Education Grants

Neurotorium is offering Clinical Education Grants to support non-profit educational projects aimed at strengthening clinical competencies within the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric and neurological disorders through educational activities aimed at healthcare professionals.

Applicants can request up to 100,000 DKK (approximately $15,000 USD) per year for a duration of one to three years. The budget can only include direct costs. Projects must incorporate Neurotorium’s educational resources, be anchored within established non-commercial organizations (such as universities, hospitals, or NGOs), and demonstrate potential to positively impact clinical practice.
