Project title: Supporting psychologists to understand, diagnose, and treat bipolar disorder: A co-designed workshop
Country: Australia
Anchoring institution: Monash University
Dates running: 2025-2028
Status: Ongoing
Project description
This project tackles a major gap in bipolar disorder (BD) care in Australia: too few psychologists are trained and confident in BD assessment and treatment, contributing to missed diagnoses and long delays to appropriate support, ultimately leading to worse outcomes for patients.
The initiative will develop and pilot a BD training workshop for clinical psychology trainees, combining Neurotorium slide decks with lived-experience-informed, recovery-oriented learning activities to promote empathy and recovery-oriented
care.
Delivered in three phases, the project will: (1) map training needs through surveys and interviews with recent clinical psychology graduates, (2) co-design resources with people with lived experience, and (3) pilot and evaluate the workshop with a cohort of trainees – assessing acceptability and learning impact.
About Neurotorium’s Clinical Education Grants
Neurotorium is offering Clinical Education Grants to support non-profit educational projects aimed at strengthening clinical competencies within the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric and neurological disorders through educational activities aimed at healthcare professionals.
Applicants can request up to 100,000 DKK (approximately $15,000 USD) per year for a duration of one to three years. The budget can only include direct costs. Projects must incorporate Neurotorium’s educational resources, be anchored within established non-commercial organizations (such as universities, hospitals, or NGOs), and demonstrate potential to positively impact clinical practice.
