Project title: Training Medical Students, Residents, GPs, Pharmacists for Migraine Early Diagnosis and Management
Country: Italy
Anchoring institution: Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli
Dates running: 2026-2028
Status: Ongoing
Project description
Migraine is a leading cause of disability worldwide, and medication overuse headache (MOH), often driven by inappropriate use of acute pain meds, is a major, preventable problem. Yet migraine and MOH are still frequently under-recognised in everyday care.
This project, hosted at Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli IRCCS (Rome, Italy) with online access, will boost headache-care skills across medical students, GPs, residents and pharmacists. The project will operate with a hybrid programme combining Neurotorium resources with lectures and case-based workshops. Training will cover ICHD-3 diagnosis, red flags, evidence-based management, and the key role of pharmacists in counselling to prevent medication overuse.
The first year of the project will engage around 80 students, 60 GPs, 40 residents, and 60 pharmacists – strengthening earlier, smarter headache care and reducing avoidable harm.
About Neurotorium’s Clinical Education Grants
Neurotorium is offering Clinical Education Grants to support non-profit educational projects aimed at strengthening clinical competencies within the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric and neurological disorders through educational activities aimed at healthcare professionals.
Applicants can request up to 100,000 DKK (approximately $15,000 USD) per year for a duration of one to three years. The budget can only include direct costs. Projects must incorporate Neurotorium’s educational resources, be anchored within established non-commercial organizations (such as universities, hospitals, or NGOs), and demonstrate potential to positively impact clinical practice.
