Patients with bipolar disorder and comorbidities are typically more complex cases, involving poorer recovery and a less favourable disease course, than patients with bipolar disorder without medical or psychiatric comorbidities.1 The Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments (CANMAT) guidance summarized on the slide was an attempt to produce a clear evidence- and consensus-based guide to helping patients with these comorbidities.1The CANMAT guidance for managing medical and psychiatric comorbidity in individuals with MDD or BD stress the importance of screening patients for comorbid conditions.
