Risk factors for post-stroke dementia

This systematic literature review and meta-analysis included data from 22 hospital-based cohorts, and 8 population-based cohorts, amounting to a total of 8,705 patients, described across 73 publications.¹ Many different factors were identified as risk factors for dementia after stroke, as shown on the slide.¹ Dementia appeared to be strongly associated with multiple strokes, reinforcing the importance of good management and patient care to reduce the later burden of dementia.¹
