This Cochrane analysis included 19 studies comparing an intervention (pharmacotherapy versus placebo, or psychotherapy) for the prevention of post-stroke depression that met the inclusion criteria, including 1,771 participants.1 Of these, outcome information was available for 9 pharmacological interventions which showed a moderate positive effect of pharmacotherapy for preventing the onset of depression after stroke.1 However, because of limitations in the design of the studies included in the analysis, the overall certainty of the evidence was rated as very low.1
