There appears to be an upward trend in the prevalence of PD in the Middle East and North Africa.1 However, data are scarce; an analysis of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) surveys 1990–2016 found no data were available for central sub-Saharan Africa, and southern sub-Saharan Africa2 – therefore more efforts, expenditure, and research are needed to determine robust numbers for the prevalence and incidence of PD in Africa, as well as in many other parts of the world.
