In the NEMESIS-2 study, subthreshold anxiety was defined as reporting at least 1 anxiety symptom in response to the core questions of the Composite International Diagnostic Interview for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder (4th edition) for panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, or generalized anxiety disorder.1 However, they did not meet the criteria for a diagnosis of anxiety in terms of severity, interference, or both.1 At the follow-up, more than one-half of these individuals did not have any anxiety symptoms, almost 30% had persistent anxiety symptoms, and 14% had progressed to a diagnosis of an anxiety disorder.1
