The joint Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments (CANMAT) and International Society for Bipolar Disorders (ISBD) 2018 guidelines for the management of patients with bipolar disorder detail the evidence supporting the use of many different psychosocial interventions for bipolar disorder, as summarized on the slide. Whilst psychosocial approaches may be useful for acute depressive episodes, and indeed during maintenance therapy to prevent relapse, there is a lack of strong evidence for the use of psychotherapy during acute manic episodes.1
