Various migraine triggers have been identified, including emotional, physical, dietary, and environmental factors.[Migraine Trust; Park et al., 2016; Pavlovic et al., 2014; Sarchielli, 2006]

Whilst many potential trigger factors for migraine attacks have been identified, the interaction of these factors is far from clear.[Spierings et al., 2014] Some have argued that trigger factors are additive, e.g., that alcohol on a hot day may increase the risk of an attack more than either individual factor.[Spierings et al., 2014] More research is needed to understand migraine triggers fully, and elucidate whether trigger factors are necessary and sufficient, or necessary and insufficient to individually cause a migraine.[Spierings et al., 2014]
