In the last century, neurons have been classified according to conduction velocity, into groups A, B, and C.[Purves et al., 2018] However, as more became known about neurons, different classifications arose within the groups, and entirely different groups arose for classification of motor neurons.[Purves et al., 2018] The terms are still used for nociceptors; A-fibres are fast-conducting neurons that transmit sensory information about touch, pain, and temperature, whereas C-fibres are slow-conducting non-discriminating neurons that transmit sensory information about touch, pain, temperature, and itch sensations.[Purves et al., 2018]
