The financial burden of schizophrenia in Canada in 2004 was calculated using a prevalence-based cost-of-illness approach. Various sources were used for analysis including published scientific literature, and government reports and documents. When Canadian data sources for patient populations or health care systems data were not available, data from similar countries closely resembling Canada were used.[Goeree et al., 2005]
