Forming effective and up-to-date drug strategies is a perennial challenge for policymakers, partly because the drug-dependence treatment landscape is always evolving.[1] Emerging technologies in the treatment of substance use and dependence include apps and digital technologies, targeted at drug users and at healthcare professionals, that can educate, track consumption, and connect to drug-help services.[1] Virtual reality technology is also being explored in the context of treating substance-use disorder; individuals can be placed in immersive virtual environments that stimulate cravings, and patients can be safely coached in how to manage and address these cravings.[1]
