Findings from this recent population-based Danish cohort study including 5,936,202 individuals aged 1–80 years living in Denmark between 2004 and 2021, showed growing incidence rates of anxiety-related disorders across birth cohorts among both sexes: the incidence rates of anxiety-related disorders per 10,000 person-years observed in the calendar years 2019–2021 were approximately twice those of the incidence rates observed for both sexes in the calendar year 2004–2006.1

This increase was most pronounced among children and young adults, while the incidence rates of anxiety-related disorders remained relatively stable among older age groups.1 The 1-year prevalence of anxiety disorders is highest in people aged between 18–25 years.2 Anxiety disorders are 1.3–2.4 times more prevalent in women than in men, which is accentuated during development and evident after adolescence.2
