An appreciation of the effect of migraine comorbidities on people with migraine, adding to the already burdensome condition, was part of the reason that the Migraine in America Symptoms and Treatment (MAST) study was undertaken.[Buse et al., 2020] By comparing a large sample of people with migraine (n=15,133) with control individuals (n=77,453), the MAST study highlighted the comorbidity burden of migraine, and used regression models to show that headache pain intensity and headache frequency were linked to an increased risk of various comorbidities.[Buse et al., 2020] As outlined on the slide, comorbidities can have a negative impact on the course of migraine.[Lantéri-Minet et al., 2011]
