The postdrome phase of a migraine attack is poorly studied. Indeed, the beta version of the ICHD-3 declined to define the postdrome in the glossary of terms;[IHS, 2013] a deficiency remedied in the final version of the ICHD-3 classification publication.[IHS, 2018]

There is considerable overlap in the symptoms that comprise the premonitory phase, and those experienced during the migraine postdrome.[IHS, 2018; Goadsby et al., 2017] This overlap means that it is not clear whether the symptoms of tiredness, concentration difficulties, and neck stiffness are initiated in the premonitory phase before the headache and persist through to the postdrome phase, or whether these symptoms appear after the headache has abated.[Goadsby et al., 2017]
