Distribution of direct and indirect costs of schizophrenia

A US-based study aimed to assess the direct and indirect costs associated with schizophrenia using a prevalence-based approach.¹ Direct healthcare costs were assessed retrospectively using an exact-matched cohort design using MarketScan databases.¹ Direct non-healthcare costs were estimated using published literature and government data, and indirect costs were estimated using a human capital approach and the value of quality-adjusted life-years lost.¹
