A large number of neurotransmitters and neuropeptides are involved in the regulation of different brain functions.1-3

Neurotransmitters such as GABA and serotonin are crucial to the functioning of the brain and the brain circuits that control emotions, and are thought to be involved in the aetiology of anxiety disorders1,2.

Neuropeptides are targets for research into anxiety disorders – understanding how the biochemistry of the brain effects and regulates emotions across neural networks is key to understanding anxiety.1 Various neuropeptides are being investigated for their role in complex behaviour and anxiety disorders, including neuropeptide Y, substance P, arginine-vasopressin, and corticotropin-releasing hormone.1
